Android Pie is the new version of android from Google, it is an incremental update with a few new features compared to the Android Oreo but there is no much drastic change in the features. Anyways here are the new features in the Android Pie that wouldn’t probably noticed when compared side to side with Android Oreo.
1. We now have a percentage indicator at the lower bottom when it is locked or in sleep mode,so you don’t need to wake up your phone to know if your phone is charging.
2. The quick settings icon at the top when swiped down has now been redesign and it is more colorful and spherical in shape and when activated it turns blue. And also the clock has been switched from the right side to the left side, which is not much of and upgrade but a cool new features.
3. The notification icon at the top has been masked out to just three to four icons with a three dots(…) at the front to accommodate other notification icons and the notifications expands out as you kind of swipe down to reveal the whole notification.
4. The biggest change in the Android Oreo is the new gesture interface; instead of a back home and recent key we now have just a one key which is use to perform so many function.
a) you can swipe up briefly to get to the over view and swipe up more to go to the menu, also to bypass the overview you can just swipe up fully to go to the menu.
b) You can swipe to the right to go to the two most recent apps when you are connected to the internet, you can also swipe between left and right to view all the recent apps.
c) Also to make use of split screen we now have a new way to activate it, when you swipe up to the overview, all you have to do is to tap on the icon on top of the recent app and select split screen then your screen will be split-ed to allow you use two apps at a time.
d) One of the cool new features is that it support multitasking, you can highlight select and copy text from an app and paste it in another app without actually opening the app full while it is an the recent apps window, also we now get this magnifying glass when you tap and hold to highlight a text it magnify over the text for you to see clear.
If you don’t like the one key gesture you can turn it off by going to settings >System>gestures>Swipe up home button and turn it off.
5. One of the features that’s I’m not that happy about is that, when you turn off the Auto-rotate icon from the top and you go to an app and rotate the phone to landscape orientation you will get an indicator at the lower right corner of the phone showing you if you can flip the phone between landscape and portrait orientation.
6. When you press and hold the power button we get the power off, restart and also screenshot options which allows you to take a screenshot and also edit the screenshot immediately.
7. One of the new feature I like, is the volume notification which now appears vertically at the volume button side wide allows you to adjust the volume the way you want, unlike like the usual horizontal notification that appears at the top of the phone. Also you can select the “do not disturb” function from the notification.
8. And finally the one features that has been talked about a lot is the cut out accommodation for displays that look like iPhone x. you can set your phone to look like iPhone by going to Settings>Developer Option> Stimulate a display with a cutout
